JOHN LANNAN
John is a former Major League Baseball pitcher and current Major League Mental Performance Coach with over 20 years of experience in professional baseball. During his 13-year professional playing career, John competed with five Major League organizations, including the Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, and Kansas City Royals. Known for his preparation, competitiveness, and leadership, John was named an Opening Day starter twice during his Major League career (2009, 2010), giving him firsthand experience performing under pressure at the highest level of the game.
Following his retirement from playing in 2017, John transitioned into coaching and mental performance, combining his professional baseball experience with advanced education in sport psychology and mental health. He earned a Master’s degree in Sport Psychology and Clinical Mental Health Counseling, along with his Certification in Mental Performance Consulting (CMPC). In 2019, John served as a Mental Skills Coach with the Cincinnati Reds organization before joining the Toronto Blue Jays organization, where he has worked with players at every level of professional baseball — from athletes rehabilitating from injury to players competing in the Major Leagues.
Today, John combines evidence-based mental performance strategies with lessons learned from more than two decades in professional baseball to help athletes build confidence, composure, resilience, and commitment both on and off the field.
